Spiritual Direction
Even the profoundly ordinary moments of life are sacred. God is already present in the most mundane aspects of our lives, in the profound moments, and in everything in between. In all of it, God invites us into deeper relationship. Spiritual direction is an art of prayerful conversation where one listens on behalf of another to discern God’s activity in the sharer’s life. It holds a compassionate space for the directee to be honest and authentic in their experiences with and responses to God. This focus helps the directee to deepen their rootedness in God’s grace and to grow in faith, hope, and love.
Spiritual directors are faithful companions who pay attention to your life stories. They use attentive discernment to help highlight the Spirit’s active presence. In other words, rather than dictating, the director is listening with you for where God is already active in your life. And then the director invites you to consider how you would like to respond to God. The primary relationship in spiritual direction is between you and God.
God is the true guide—the human spiritual director simply assists you in noticing the inner voice of God asking for a response. This reality makes directors quite interested in your experience of God and how you follow God’s call. That call is viewed as a process moving you toward increased intimacy with God, yourself, your relationships, your work, and your interactions with your world.
In my work as your director, I will pay attention to your spiritual experience, points of self-discovery, and discern with you how God is showing up in daily life. Our conversations will last approximately 60 minutes and be held in confidence. I will not try to analyze or fix you or your situations. I promise to listen with you for the voice of God and provide a kind, protective, consistent, and trustworthy space to share.
Our conversations are always confidential except in cases where harm to others must be reported. For my personal growth, I ask your permission to share pieces of information with my supervisor without using your name. It is customary for directors to be under direction and supervision as part of our commitment to deepening our relationship with God and improving our practice.
Spiritual direction has unique limitations online. I cannot be held responsible for disruptions of services that are due to phone or computer malfunctions, loss of electricity or internet connectivity. If we lose video access, I will suggest we move to a phone call conversation.
Direction sessions usually take place once a month and last for one hour. I charge $80 per session. I do not want finances to be the sole cause for someone not entering direction, so please talk with me regarding your situation if you need financial assistance.
